Sierra De Guadadarrama

Where Madrid ends, the
mountains begin.

Private and small-group guided experiences in the Sierra de Guadarrama — environmental science, three decades on the trails, and a personal connection to the land that goes beyond tourism.

Portrait of the guide

The Guide

The Guide

A life learned slowly,
between granite and pine.

I was born and raised in Portugal, where I studied Environmental Science and completed a Master's in Tourism Management and Planning at the Universidade de Aveiro. The classroom gave me a way of looking at landscapes; the outdoors gave me the rest.

More than thirty years ago I crossed into Spain. I met my wife here, and life slowly rooted itself in the Sierra de Guadarrama — the ridges, the streams, the long silences between the pines. What began as study became something closer to belonging.

The Sierra isn't taught. It's walked.

What I offer now is a combination of science, lived experience, and a personal connection to this land. An invitation to walk it slowly, beyond the usual paths.

Up here the pace changes

Guided experiences,
not packages.

Each route is shaped to the group and the day — by terrain, weather, and what you came looking for.

The Seasons

Every season reveals
a different Sierra.

Spring

Spring

Green and flowing — meltwater, wild daffodils, swollen streams. The Sierra at its most generous.

Summer

Summer

In season now

Best lived early or late, high up where the air stays cool. The valleys belong to dawn and dusk.

Autumn

Autumn

Golden and clear. The light is honest, the paths are quiet, the temperatures are perfect.

Winter

Winter

Snow-covered and silent. Routes are chosen with care; the mountain asks for company.

What to bring

A small pack,
carefully chosen.

Essentials

  • ·Hiking footwear with grip
  • ·Water — at least 1.5 L
  • ·Layered clothing (merino or fleece)
  • ·Sun protection — cap, glasses, cream
  • ·A small backpack, 18–25 L

By season

  • ·Waterproof shell (spring, autumn)
  • ·Warm insulating layer (winter)
  • ·Headlamp for sunrise or sunset routes

Getting there

Meeting the mountain

The Sierra is close to Madrid but rewards an early start. Parking fills quickly on weekends; meeting points are adapted to the chosen route and the day's conditions. The train from Madrid (C-8, C-9) is often the calmest way to arrive.

  • Puerto de NavacerradaTrain C-9 from Madrid · parking fills early on weekends
  • Puerto de CotosAccess to Peñalara · best reached before 9:00
  • La Pedriza · Manzanares el RealDaily vehicle quota in summer · early arrival essential
  • CercedillaTrain C-8 / C-9 · gateway to the Valsaín forests

Between pines and granite, everything makes more sense

A mountain is best walked
slowly, and with guidance.
